Zermatt and the Matterhorn — A Swiss Alpine Journey Traveling to Zermatt, at the foot of one of the most forthright peaks in the world, was nothing short of truly magical. The scenic ride from Zurich passed through lush valleys and snow-dusted peaks and reached a carless village that seemed out of a storybook. A fresh, crisp air filled the lungs while walking by the streets of Zermatt lined with wooden chalets, charming cafés, and boutiques. My next adventure was to board the Gornergrat Railway, a cogwheel train that makes its way to an elevation of over 3,000 meters. The view from the top—dynamic Matterhorn and the surrounding Alps—was stunning and deserved the cherishing of several lifetime memories in pictures. The following day saw me exploring trails that cut across alpine meadows laced with clear streams; in winter, the same trails become thrilling skiing courses resorting to fun seekers of all ages worldwide.
